The Power of Strangers with Joe Keohane
“Talking to strangers isn’t just a way to live. It’s a way to survive.”
Acclaimed author Joe Keohane invites members and guests to an exclusive evening sure to convert strangers into friends.
In his book The Power of Strangers, Keohane takes readers on a deep dive into what happens when we talk to strangers, how it can benefit us, and why it affects everything from our health and well-being to the success of entire nations.
Esquire calls The Power of Strangers “meticulously researched and buoyantly written” – and we tend to agree.
At this event, we will discuss a raft of new psychological research showing the many social and individual benefits of talking to strangers—from fostering an enhanced sense of well-being, empathy, and belonging, to reducing loneliness, cynicism, and even prejudice. We’ll talk through the things that keep us from doing it, and try some proven strategies for getting the most out of these tragically misunderstood interactions.
